Carrie Belshe, NP

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Student

Carrie Belshe, NP, is completing her clinical preceprorship toward a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) degree with Oasis Counseling Services. Her professional goal is to provide compassionate, individualized medication management and mental health guidance to individuals and families navigating the challenges of mental health care.

Carrie brings both professional nursing experience and a deeply personal understanding of the mental health system. As a mother of a child who has experienced mental health challenges, she has personally experienced the perspective of a family seeking help within a complex healthcare system. From navigating state insurance and locating available providers to managing inpatient care, medication side effects, and lengthy wait times—even during periods of crisis—Carrie understands how overwhelming and discouraging accessing mental health services can be for patients and their families. These experiences have strengthened her desire to help others feel heard, supported, and empowered as they navigate their own healthcare journeys. Carrie hopes to use both her clinical education and lived experience to help patients and families better understand their treatment options and feel more confident advocating for their mental health needs.

Carrie chose to complete her preceptorship with Oasis Counseling Services because of the practice’s comprehensive approach to mental healthcare, including individual, family, and group therapy, as well as its commitment to serving both urban and rural populations. Originally from a small Kansas town, Carrie has a strong appreciation for rural communities and hopes to continue practicing in a rural setting where access to mental healthcare can sometimes be limited.

Her nursing career has included experience in rural hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice settings, providing her with a broad perspective on patient care across different stages of life and healthcare environments. These experiences have reinforced her belief that quality healthcare begins with listening to the whole person—not simply treating a diagnosis.

Outside of her professional life, Carrie is married to her husband, who is also a nurse. Together, they have three children who are currently seniors in high school. As Carrie completes her graduate studies, her family is also entering an exciting season as her children take college tours and begin making plans for their own educational journeys. While life is busy, Carrie and her family are intentionally trying to slow down and savor this final year together with their children as high school seniors. Carrie is grateful for the opportunity to continue growing as a nurse practitioner and to develop the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to serve patients and families well. She looks forward to bringing her nursing experience, personal perspective, and commitment to compassionate care to the mental health field.
